Structurally, the caisson is a cubic or cylindrical container located above the well. The structure of the caisson is simple – a caisson chamber and an extension. Traditionally, this is a box or barrel with a neck for free access inside, which is closed with a hatch cover, and several holes for special purposes. There are no partitions inside the cavity (only stiffeners), the height is usually from 1.5 to 2 meters, the diameter (cross section) is different.
The caisson is one of the necessary elements of the arrangement of a water well, it is installed on top of the casing pipe at a depth of 1.5–2 meters, which prevents it from freezing even at very low temperatures.
The caisson, due to its tightness, does not allow sewage, upper groundwater and rainwater to enter the wellhead. Consequently, toxic substances and harmful bacteria contained in them cannot penetrate into drinking water, as well as draining from some neighbor's sewer.
